HIV/AIDS in India

چکیده
STATE OF THE EPIDEMIC The Government of India estimates that in 2007, about 2.31 million Indians were living with HIV (1.8 – 2.9 million) with an adult prevalence of 0.34 percent. India’s highly heterogeneous epidemic is largely concentrated in six states—in the industrialized south and west and in the north-eastern tip. On average, HIV prevalence in those states is 4–5 times higher than in the other states. HIV prevalence is highest in the Mumbai-Karnataka corridor, the Nagpur area of Maharashtra, the Nammakkal district of Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Manipur and Nagaland.

Governance of HIV/AIDS: Implications for Health Sector Response
This paper reviews the essence of effective governance and importance of a multi-sectoral approach in generating health systems response to HIV/AIDS. This comprehensive approach highlights the importance of integrating reproductive sexual health programs and HIV prevention services, including peer education, life skills, and Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), for Prevention of Mother–to-Ch...
متن کاملAn epidemic model for the transmission dynamics of HIV/AIDS with different clinical stages
In this paper, a five–dimensional mathematical model is proposed for the transmission dynamics of HIV/AIDS within a population of varying size. In writing the model, we have divided the population under consideration into five sub classes of susceptible, infective, pre-AIDS, AIDS related complex and that of AIDS patients. The model has two non- negative equilibria namely, a disease free and the...
متن کاملAIDS Epidemic Modeling With Different Demographic Structures
The most urgent public health problem today is to devise effective strategies to minimize the destruction caused by the AIDS epidemic. Mathematical models based on the underlying transmission mechanisms of the AIDS virus can help the medical/scientific community understand and anticipate its spread in different populations and evaluate the potential effectiveness of different approaches for bri...
متن کاملStability and Numerical Analysis of Malaria- mTB- HIV/AIDS Co-infection (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper, we develop a mathematical model to examine the transmission dynamics of curable malaria, curable mTB and non-curable HIV/AIDS and their co-infection. The size of population has been taken as varying due to the emigration of susceptible population. The total population is divided into five subclasses as susceptible, malaria infected, mTB infected, HIV infection and AIDS by assumin...

متن کاملMalnutrition among HIV- infected Children by Anthropometric Measures in Poor Outreach Area of a Developing Country and its Relationship with CD4 Counts
Background: Diagnosis and management of malnutrition in HIV- infected children is important as it is both a manifestation as well as an independent risk factor for death. Extent in hilly poor outreach areas of North India has been poorly studied. Aim: to study the prevalence of malnutrition among children with HIV/AIDS using WHO z- score and Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) method and effect...
